Rising star on court - Jessica Staines visits Harrod Sport
We were thrilled to welcome Ron Harrod Foundation athlete Jessica Staines to the Harrod Sport factory for a behind-the-scenes tour and a catch-up on her recent successes. Jessica arrived with her dad, Matthew Staines, and left with a well-earned Ron Harrod Foundation hoodie - a small token of our support for her impressive progress on court.
Hailing from Stowmarket, Suffolk, Jessica is already the current Ladies' Suffolk champion and represents both the Suffolk Ladies and U18 squads. She's ranked 23rd in the UK for U16 - a brilliant marker of her trajectory in British tennis.
Titles that tell a story
Jessica currently holds a string of Ladies' Grade 3 titles across the region, including:
- Suffolk
- Frinton
- Cromer
- Felixstowe
- Harlow
- Ipswich
- Easton
Each win reflects her consistency, resilience, and ability to raise her level in competitive moments.
Training with purpose
Jessica trains at David Lloyd with coach Michael Billson, honing the fundamentals that underpin elite performance - footwork, shot selection, and match intelligence. She's also been awarded a scholarship at Finborough School to study her A-levels, giving her the academic flexibility and support structure to continue pushing her tennis to the next level.
Powered by the Ron Harrod Foundation
The Ron Harrod Foundation exists to encourage and enable young athletes to fulfil their ambitions. Jessica is a brilliant example of what this support can help unlock: high-quality coaching, access to competition, and the confidence to take on bigger stages. We're proud to play a small part in her journey and can't wait to see what comes next.
Keep going, Jess - everyone at Harrod Sport and the Ron Harrod Foundation is right behind you.
