Suffolk Olympic boxer Anthony Ogogo joins RHF judging panel

Harrod Sport proudly welcomes local Olympian to The Ron Harrod Foundation panel

Suffolk Olympic boxer Anthony Ogogo has joined The Ron Harrod Foundation judging panel to award £5,000 of funding for one or more local young athletes. The Ron Harrod Foundation was set up by Harrod Sport to provide funding for under-25s sportsmen and women to help them continue to compete in their chosen sport.

Anthony explains why he agreed to be a part of the Foundation: "I'm passionate about people - particularly young people - aspiring to and achieving their dreams. I hope sponsorship from the Ron Harrod Foundation can help enable people to do so."

In 2018, Harrod Sport will be looking for the recipient(s) of £5,000 of funding in 2019. We are inviting nominations from YOU, which will be assessed by a panel of judges before one or more recipients are chosen.

We ask Anthony, what will go into the decision-making process when it comes to deciding who gets funding?

"I will make a decision on those that show true desire to get to where they want to get to. Having talent is great, but desire means more."

Competing can be expensive, even at a local or regional level. Equipment can be expensive, and that's before hotels and travel. For this reason, many talented young athletes have to give up their dreams of competing, of pushing themselves to see what they can achieve.

"I love seeing people do more than they think they can," says Anthony. "Many people have helped me in my career and being part of something to help people on their own journeys is very exciting.

I hope that the winners will use the funding to propel them to achieving their dreams."

Anthony's own sporting career has taken him to the height of competition as a middle-weight boxer. His professional record boasts an impressive 11 wins out of 12, including seven knockouts.

In 2017, Anthony fractured his eye socket and has been in recovery, though many will have seen him more recently on Strictly Come Dancing.
